Comic Review: Assassin’s Creed: Ankh of Isis Trilogy
Assassin’s Creed: Ankh of Isis Trilogy incorporates many of the elements that made the video games so popular: time traveling, intrigue, murder, and history. The trilogy starts off from the perspective of Desmond Miles and his ancestor, Aquilus, within the Roman Empire. Using the Animus, Desmond is able to relive his ancestor’s memories and provide information about key artifacts and events. A minor setback in Aquilus’ life leaves the Order questioning the Animus and the role their subjects have in obtaining world domination. The Animus itself poses a threat to anyone who uses it over a prolonged period.
With the help of Desmond and one of his assassin ancestor’s, the Order gains intelligence revealing the location of a unique ankh – one that has resurrection powers. In a sudden turn of events, Desmond and a small group of scientists escape the watchful eye of the Order to pursue important artifacts. Can Desmond and his ancestors step up to challenge and stop the Order while keeping his sanity?
The story is interspersed with classic assassin moves, like jumping from buildings, escaping authorities, and blending into the crowd. Between the stealthy moves and the large-scale battles, this trilogy is packed with action. The modern day aspect of the story also incorporates Desmond’s ancestor’s special skill set.
While the story may appear convoluted at first, the plot is ironed out as the story unfolds. For regular Assassin’s Creed gamers, there may be no fumbling when it comes to Desmond’s adventures. The Ankh of Isis trilogy is accessible to readers unfamiliar with the Assassin’s Creed world. Within a few pages, things start tying together nicely.
The trilogy is available in a single, hardback book, a perfect Christmas gift for any Assassin’s Creed fan. It is published by Titan Books, written by Corbeyran, drawn by Djillali Defali, and colored by Raphael Hedon.
