The first thing everyone should know is that this is definitely not the Justice League that we’re all familiar with…and that is perfectly fine.

Justice League: Gods And Monsters takes the beloved “DC Trinity” (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman) and puts a delightfully dark spin on them via a story that takes place in an alternate universe, where Batman is Kirk Langstrom, Superman is the son of General Zod, and Wonder Woman is a New God from New Genesis. To go with this darker, alternate universe, it should be noted that this Justice League does kill, but only bad guys. Now, before people start comparing this Justice League to the Justice Lords (from the Justice League & Justice League Unlimited animated series),know that this Justice League is actually good, albeit blunt and brutal. One of the best things about this film is seeing the alternate versions of fan favorite characters. There are quite a few “Hey, that’s (insert name)!” moments, so I won’t be giving away any spoilers.

Not gonna lie. I love seeing the Bruce Timm art style again. I’m sure all of you feel the same way. Having enjoyed Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited, and the fact that alternate universes exist in those shows since they are all connected, makes Justice League: Gods And Monsters feel like it’s just a continuation of those beloved shows and that is such a good feeling. This film is definitely a bit more mature, almost like it grew up with the fans of those shows. Another good thing about this film is that there are webisodes that go with, compliment, and explore this alternate universe. Those webisodes are entitled Justice League: Gods And Monsters Chronicles, and can be found on Machinima’s YouTube channel. (You can watch those episodes at the end of this article.)

Overall, I definitely recommend this film and hope that DC will continue with Justice League: Gods And Monsters via more films and webisodes.
