Boss Monster Digital is coming to a tablet near you!
Fans of old-school video games and tabletop games might recall our effusive review of the Boss Monster card game last year. Breaking down the game’s clever hero-baiting gameplay, which centers around making sure you have the best mix of treasures to attract this month’s dungeon-delving heroes to their doom, we concluded:
Pop quiz: what’s the coolest thing about Boss Monster: Master of the Dungeon? Is it the community, the retro art and winking nods, the fast-paced gameplay, or the theme? The answer might be different things for different people; for me, it’s “all of the above” crammed into a box that’s the perfect size for throwing in your book bag, the perfect length for a quick, pick-up-and-play game, and the perfect complexity for explaining to your friends in 5 minutes while leaving room to explore new strategies on your 20th play.
Now, Boss Monster will be even more portable as it infiltrates iOS and Android tablets, thanks to a new Kickstarter from Boss Monster creators Brotherwise Games. The new crowdfunding campaign sees them teaming up with Plain Concepts, the creators of the cross-platform Wave Engine, to bring the dungeon-building card game to your favorite mobile device. A $5 pledge gets you the Key to the Dungeon, a download key for the app on a platform of your choice, while a $12 pledge tier gets you the game, a digital expansion, and two digital promo packs. For $45, you get physical and digital copies of everything mentioned above, including the original game!
The digital interface, currently in prototype form, is already looking slick, complementing the game’s 8-bit aesthetic perfectly. On top of the already great value of the Kickstarter, Brotherwise Games has promised some great “hidden stretch goals” as the campaign progresses.
