The upcoming reboot of The Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network just had its first promo reanimated to look more like the original 1998 show.
Reception towards the re-imagining of The Powerpuff Girls has been mixed, with the reboot missing the creative input of its original creator Craig McCracken – although he was asked by Cartoon Network, but declined the offer – and the removal of the original voice actresses in favor of new faces. The first promo clip of the new series didn’t set the world on fire either, with the outdated “you fight like a girl” storyline and art style too similar to other cartoons like Clarence, creating a visual disharmony with the designs of the main trio.
Ed Peppe, an animator on YouTube, decided to reanimate the promo for the new Powerpuff Girls show by adding back the thick black outlines of the original series and modifying the designs of the new characters as well.
Below is the original Cartoon Network promo.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the new animated promo by Peppe looks more appropriate for The Powerpuff Girls and more exciting to watch than the initial promo.
The new Powerpuff Girls will premiere this April on Cartoon Network.
