If you’ve ever wondered what it would have been like being a TV viewer back in the 1960s, or if you have ever wanted to relive it, then a new service promises you the chance. Network On Air have launched this new streaming service, which has just gone live, offering curated ‘Nights In’.
The service is based on a slew of content from the UKs ABC television which broadcast in the Midlands and Northern England between 1956 and 1968. Each package features new voiceover links from David Hamilton, who started out as an announcer for ABC in the 1960s.
The first Night In, titled ‘Welcome once again to Manchester’ includes:
- Here’s David Nixon – Episode 1
- Dial 999: The Great Gold Robbery
- Opportunity Knocks (originally broadcast 31st July 1965)
- Big Night Out (originally broadcast 6th July 1963)
- The ABC of ABC: The channel’s 10-year anniversary special, (unseen since 1966)
- Armchair Theatre: A Very Fine Line
- Surprise Bonus Show
Although only available in the UK and Ireland at present, it will be interesting to see how Network On Air expands and whether this might become a wider phenomenon, in the same way Secret Cinema has.
