Among the many draws to Action Comics #1000, Superman fans are no doubt most intrigued by three: the DC Comics debut of Brian Michael Bendis; Marv Wolfman scripting unpublished Curt Swan pages (!!!), and a cover from Jim Lee heralding the return of the classic and tres chic layered jammies look of The Man of Tomorrow. While these are a superb trifecta for Superman fans, the millennial issue also features work from Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, Pat Gleason, Dan Jurgens, Brad Meltzer, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, Tom King, and Scott Snyder. “The one-thousandth issue of ACTION COMICS is an incredible milestone in pop culture and a testament to the vision of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster,” said DC publisher Dan DiDio. “Without this book, along with Siegel and Shuster’s fertile imaginations and boundless creativity, the superhero’s place in literature may have been wildly different, if not altogether nonexistent.”

The most discussed and debated of all of these inclusions will undoubtedly be Jim Lee’s revision of the Superman costume. “ACTION COMICS #1000 represents a watershed moment in the history of not just comic books, but entertainment, literature and pop culture,” said Lee. “There’s no better way to celebrate Superman’s enduring popularity than to give him a look that combines some new accents with the most iconic feature of his classic design.”

Action Comics #1000 arrives in comic shops on April 18th, 2018, featuring not only the ten page Brian Michael Bendis and Jim Lee story, but two fifteen page stories from the current creative teams: Peter J. Tomasi and Pat Gleason from Superman, and Dan Jurgens from Action Comics handling both words and pictures in his story. The new Curt Swan pages will be coupled with Marv Wolfman’s new story, and the issue will be rounded out with a collection of bonus stories from other creators from Superman and Action Comics. The creative teams include Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, and Olivier Coipel; Paul Dini with José Luis García-López; Tom King with Clay Mann and Jordie Bellaire; Brad Meltzer with John Cassaday and Laura Martin; Louise Simonson with Jerry Ordway; and, Scott Snyder with Tim Sale.
