Trailer Park #5
Hey there! Every edition of Trailer Park is full of… trailery goodness. We have animation cashing in with Legends of OZ, Pompeii (Sure, it’s a Paul W.S Anderson film, but on the upside, it’s not another Alien Vs Predator film or another Resident Evil film. On the downside, it’s still a Paul W.S Anderson film.), Wolf Creek 2, which is ready to put a dent in the Australian tourism market again, and finally Divergent, a film adaptation of the best-selling young adult book (Aren’t they all?). Anyway… To the trailers!
LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY’S RETURN
Who: Lea Michele, Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart
What: Dorothy returns to Kansas, only to find it devastated by the tornado that had whisked her away to Oz. The home she has been so desperate to return to is severely damaged and the townspeople are packing up and moving out. But shortly after arriving, she is magically transported back to Oz. She finds out that Oz is in trouble and the people there need her help.
We say: Another Oz cash in. It could be cute, but most likely it’ll be derivative.
POMPEII
Who: Paul W.S Anderson, Emily Browning, Kit Harington
What: A slave turned gladiator finds himself in a race against time to save his true love, who has been betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts, he must fight to save his beloved as Pompeii crumbles around him.
We say: Looks like a CGI fest and, going on past results, a character driven action film is not forth coming.
WOLF CREEK 2
Who: Greg McLean, John Jarratt and victims
What: The outback once more becomes a place of horror as another unwitting tourist becomes the prey for crazed, serial-killing, pig-shooter Mick Taylor.
We say: Sequels generally suck, but if McLean can come with a different angle, this could be interesting.
DIVERGENT
Who: Neil Burger, Kaye Winslet, Shailene Woodley
What: Beatrice Prior, a teenager with a special mind, finds her life threatened when an authoritarian leader seeks to exterminate her kind in her effort to seize control of their divided society.
We say: Another YA adaptation, with studios desperately trying to find the next teen market cash cow. Hopefully, Divergent raises above this. The addition of Kate Winslet certainly bodes well.
