Welcome to Trailer Park
Trailer Park is a new article series for Nerdspan, where I bring together upcoming films and their trailers for your convenience. Click on the posters to watch the trailer.
GRAVITY
Who: Alfonso Cuaron, George Clooney, Sandra Bullock.
What: A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.
We say: With an anxiety inducing trailer, this could either by a great triumph or a total let down if they can’t maintain the feeling the trailer gives you.
RUNNER RUNNER
Who: Brad Furman, Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake
What: When a poor college student who cracks an online poker game goes bust, he arranges a face-to-face with the man he thinks cheated him: a sly offshore entrepreneur.
We Say: The Batffleck seems to be careful with his acting roles these days and his inclusion in this film could see this step above a usual thriller.
MACHETE KILLS
Who: Robert Rodriguez, Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba
What: The U.S. government recruits Machete to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.
We say: Highly enjoyable, ridiculous B-Grade action with current and former A-grade celeb cameos. What’s not to like?
12 YEARS A SLAVE
Who: Steve McQueen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael K. Williams
What: In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York is abducted and sold into slavery.
We say: Plenty of good things being said about this film. Award nominations are but a formality.
CARRIE
Who: Kimberley Peirce, Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore
What: Remake of the 1976 film about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.
We say: As unnecessary as remakes are, we’ll give this one a chance considering Peirce and Moretz are involved.
THE COUNSELOR
Who: Ridley Scott, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt
What: A lawyer finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking.
We say: Ok. So… Ridley Scott directs from a Cormac McCarthy script with Fassbender and Pitt? It already sounds great.
