Family WayVarèse Sarabande have announced a limited vinyl release of Paul McCartney’s score to the 1966 film The Family Way. Composed before the recording of Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and produced by George Martin, the film score has been a collector’s piece for Beatles fans for years. Varèse Sarabande released the score on CD in 2011 in its original sequence, remastered from the first-generation tapes, but this marks the first time that the album has been on vinyl in quite some time. The album will be available only in independent record stores as part of National Record Store Day on Saturday, April 18th.

The film starred Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett, and was a fairly risqué comedy about a young couple whose attempts to consummate their marriage are repeatedly foiled. The score, composed by McCartney and orchestrated by Martin, represents an early attempt at instrumental music for McCartney. Other classical works by Sir Paul include Liverpool Oratorio with Carl Davis, Ecce Cor Meum with the Academy of St.-Martin-in-the-Fields, and the 2011 ballet Ocean’s Kingdom.
