An army of artists drive every blockbuster film, television series, or video game that is produced. This holds true for the latest Assassin’s Creed entry, Origins. And, Wow, did the artists outdo themselves!

Assassin's Creed Origins

Assassin’s Creed Origins

I have read, and enjoyed, many “The Art of” books from multiple franchises. The Art of Assassin’s Creed: Origins is perhaps the best I’ve come across. Thick pages, over 200 of them, presents a hefty volume that feels good to browse. My only gripe about the physical design of the book is that it was published in portrait. Most of the other “Art” books I’ve read are in landscape, which allows for better viewing. That gripe nearly disappears with the beauty presented here.

Illustrations, paintings, sketches, and computer renderings of what must be the most gorgeous entry into the series of Assassin’s Creed games amaze with every turn of the page. The book treats not only with visual delights, but also with insights from the artists and game designers. I wished on more than one occasion that I could take the artwork and display it on the walls of my abode. I harbor a fascination with ancient Egypt. The Art of Assassin’s Creed: Origins transports the viewer there through the imagination and work of the game’s artists and developers. Now I wish to re-explore that great country and culture.

If you merely appreciate great art, you’ll enjoy this “making of” book. Furthermore, if you are a player, then this book will give you a more immersive experience when you enter the journey.

Disclosures:

I have not played any of the Assassin’s Creed games, nor delved much into the universe. However, this book makes me regret that.

I thank Titan Books for the free review copy of The Art of Assassin’s Creed: Origins. Their generosity in no way colored my positive review.
