Last weekend, anime enthusiasts converged for three days at the 11th annual Realms Con at Corpus Christi, Texas.

Realms Con 03Realms Con, created in 2005 as a way for residents of the Coastal Bend area to share their love of pop culture, has grown tremendously since its first held event. It changed hotel locations until settling on the American Bank Center in 2010; introduced celebrity guests like Vic Mignogna (Fullmetal Alchemist), Steve Blum (Cowboy Bebop) and Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain); and brought popular musical guests like Steam Powered Giraffe for fans to rock out.

This year’s event was no different. Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), Michael Jai White (Spawn) and Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill) were among the celebrity guests at Realms Con. Perhaps the biggest draw was the gathering of voice actors associated with Dragon Ball Z, such as Eric Valve, Chuck Huber and Josh Martin. Unfortunately, some steam was lost for the epic event when Sean Schemmel (Goku) was unable to attend.

Realms Con 02Musical guests was also diverse with performances by J-pop singer Chii Sakurabi, alternative musician Voltaire and comedic steampunk performers Steam Powered Giraffe. The last band in particular saw long lines for every performance held and autograph signing during the three-day weekend.

Realms Con 01North American anime distributor Funimation continued to make its presence felt at Realms Con with more of its voice actors present and holding panels regarding its series. Despite the small space, the Funimation Industry panel hosted by Tara McKinney was active with fans eager to see their favorite series. Attack on Titan: Junior High, the comedy spin-off of Attack on Titan, was announced as a fall simulcast title from Funimation. The live action Attack on Titan movie was later previewed at a separate panel.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a convention without imported anime goods on sale, along with art prints from local artists and industry figures. Awe-inspiring cosplay from professionals and fans were abundant throughout the event, ranging from Kill la KillSplatoon and Gravity Falls.

Below is a gallery of some of the impressive cosplay at Realms Con 2015.
