The Mantle

With great power comes great… indifference?

Ed Brisson and Brian Level team to tell the tale of The Mantle, a new Image Comics series debuting in May. The series focuses on Robbie, a man who personifies the term Average Joe. After leaving a punk rock show in a drunken haze, our hero is struck by lightning. The blow imbued Robbie with a power set of unimaginable scope, power associated for the past half century with the hero known as The Mantle.

Despite being completely ambivalent to his new found powers, Robbie has no choice but to spring into action as he already has a nemesis. The Plague, a being who has spent the past 50 years hunting down everyone who has hosted these incredible powers, is looking to make Robbie his latest victim.

“Brian and I have been talking about working on a project together for a few years now, so we’re both thrilled to finally have the opportunity to do so,” said Brisson. “The Mantle is, in my opinion, a really fun direction for a superhero book where not everything is black and white and where, by the end of the first issue, I think that readers are going to realize that what they think is happening… is not what’s really happening.”

The Mantle hits stores May 13.
