Trailer Park #4

Posted By on October 19, 2013

The 4th edition of Trailer Park features a documentary about a film very close to my heart – Night of the Living Dead, some Spike Jonze weirdness in Her, an adaptation of a novel – The Book Thief, and possibly the most unrequested sequel/spinoff since Big Momma’s House 2Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Click on the posters to access the trailers.

BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD (or YEAR OF THE LIVING DEAD – title has changed)

Who: Rob Khuns, a bunch of talking heads birthOTLD

What: A documentary that shows how George A. Romero gathered an unlikely team of Pittsburghers to shoot his seminal film: Night of the Living Dead.

We say: So, a documentary about the greatest zombie film ever? Hell yes and then some.

HERher

Who: Spike Jonze, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams

What: A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that’s designed to meet his every need.

We say: In the right hands, weirdness can make a great film. As Being John Malkovich proved, Spike Jonze’s hands are the right ones.

THE BOOK THIEFbookthief

Who: Brian Percival, Sophie Nelisse, Geoffery Rush

What: While subjected to the horrors of WWII Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. Under the stairs in her home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents.

We say: Always risky to adapt a book to the screen, especially a popular one. It has some real acting pedigree, so the risk might pay off.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONESparanormalact

Who: Christopher Landon, Richard Cabral, Carlos Pratts

What: More paranormal action as the story veers into different territory…

We say: How a low-budget, found footage film turned into a 5 film franchise I’ll never know, but this does look like it might have enough differences in it to keep things interesting.
