Mark Wahlberg and Seth McFarlane are at it again with a sequel to the hit movie starring America’s living teddy bear. Ted 2 is pretty much what you would expect from a Ted movie, unless you are a Mila Kunis fan.
We start out with Ted (Seth McFarlane) marrying his girlfriend from the first movie Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth). His best friend John (Mark Wahlberg) on the other hand is conveniently divorced. A year into Ted’s marriage, he and Tami-Lynn decide to have a baby. Since Ted’s anatomy is not fit for fathering a baby (despite him somehow still able to have sex), he turns to other methods such as a sperm donor (with some help from John) and adoption. Unfortunately, those plans are put to a halt when Ted gets a letter saying that the government doesn’t consider him a person, thus voiding his marriage and making him ineligible to be a parent.
This is when Ted and John consult a rookie lawyer named Samantha Louise Jackson (Amanda Seyfried) because: 1) they have no money and she works pro bono and 2) she smokes weed just like them. Can this odd trio do the impossible and grant a pot-smoking, foul-mouthed stuffed bear his personhood?
Much like the first movie, Ted 2 puts crude jokes ahead of an uncomplicated plot. The R-Rated humor in this movie definitely takes it to the next level, with Seth and Mark doing the bulk of the deliveries. The most powerful joke is probably the one that borrows the theme music of another franchise that has just had its most recent hit.
Amanda Seyfried makes her first appearance in the Teddy-verse. She handles the humor well and falls well into the movie. Jessica Barth gets more screen time, but not really enough considering Ted’s fate affects Tami-Lynn too. This movie has more prominent and more hilarious celebrity cameos than Ted, the best ones being Liam Neeson and Tom Brady.
Ted 2 does well giving loyal Ted fans what they want. If you are a fan of the first movie, then there is no real reason for you not to catch this film.
