The last episode has finally arrived to determine who will be crowned King of the Nerds. The last 4 nerds are called to find out what Bobby and Curtis have in store for them. They are told the next challenge will be to navigate through the Maze of Terror piloting Seqways. The first 3 through the maze will move on to the next round while the last will be sent home.
The Maze of Terror?
Maze of Terror? Is it going to be a gauntlet style maze where the competitors are terrorized by various things? Possibly being pelted with more tennis balls or being chased by a Sumo wrestler? No, the maze is constructed of approximately 6 inch tall elongated blocks and the only thing that is scary about it is some of the nerd’s driving abilities. Danielle finished first followed closely by Genevieve, then Celeste, while Ivan secures last place and is sent home.

The next challenge is a question and answer involving different categories that each nerd can choose from- math, comics, gaming, etc. It is set up similar to Jeopardy, having 5 questions in each category with the top questions containing lower difficulty questions than those below them. Each question is worth 1 point and the first two nerds that reach 5 points move on and the last is removed from competition. Celeste and Genevieve reach 5 points simultaneously followed by Danielle with 4 points. Poor Danielle, she was so close, maybe she should blame her loss on “stupid Kevin Smith” as well.
Having seen all the episodes previously with the variety of challenges that were presented to the nerds I truly found these last challenges disappointing. The “Maze of Terror” was drastically sub par and the Q&A was lacking in excitement. I do not understand how they have calculating physics with balls smashing glass in the previous episode then follow that up with something so uneventful. It seemed as though they just ran out of ideas and just said, “Aah screw it, let’s just make the final challenges something simple.”
It is now down to the final two, Celeste and Genevieve. They are told their fate will be decided by their fellow nerds who return from banishment to vote for who they feel should be King of the Nerds. Celeste and Genevieve spend the evening with the rest of the nerds presenting their reasons why they should be crowned the winner.
The next day everyone gathers in the throne room and Celeste and Genevieve have one last chance to present their cases to their fellow nerds before they vote. Genevieve goes first explaining how she endured 3 Nerd Offs, led her team, Blextrophy, to win team challenges, and how her diversity is why she was able to overcome those challenges. All valid points and presented very well. Celeste gives a little more of an emotional presentation explaining how she was afraid to come out of her shell in the beginning but later found the courage to do the things she was not normally comfortable with. I think both presented their cases well, but sorry Celeste, since this is King of the Nerds and not a Dr. Drew show, I am going with Genevieve.
Now it is time for the nerds to vote for their new king and each nerd’s vote is listed below.

There are two votes remaining and Celeste is leading by 1, Virgil is about to vote and will more than likely vote for Genevieve making the final deciding vote Joshua’s. Virgil indicates what a good leader Genevieve was and how well she has done, but is influenced by Celeste’s story of overcoming her fears. Virgil reveals his vote for Celeste. Celeste is the King of the Nerds! Wow, who saw that coming from Virgil? Honestly, show of hands if you truly thought he would NOT vote for Genevieve.

Celeste is crowned and takes her place on the Throne of Games. It just goes to show you anything can happen and it was truly anyone’s game. I am sure Celeste will not let down her fellow nerds as she represents them from atop her throne. Good job Celeste and good luck.

I think Danielle should have been banished for thinking Wolverine’s first appearance was in “The Incredible Hulk” # 27. After she got the question of “Who’s book did Wolverine make his first appearance in?” wrong, she further humiliated herself when they showed a cut scene and she showed everyone she knew the correct answer by blurting out “Hulk #27”. I just shook my head in disdain.

I agree, there were several times when I was a little put off by the contestants as well as some of the challenges. I honestly thought there would be some serious challenges of possibly robotics or engineering, and stacking blocks is not engineering. Hopefully next season will be a little more challenging.
