KILL THE FRESHMAN – Cover

Many of you may remember back to your high school years.  Some of you may be experiencing them right now, or for others it is in your not so distant future. For some, becoming a freshman in high school was and is a terrifying experience. You are told horrible stories about the things the upper classman do to freshmen, especially if they catch you in certain areas of campus. Unfortunate freshmen are caught in the bathroom and given a swirly, in the locker room for an atomic wedgie, or in the courtyard and tied to the flag pole by their underwear. All of these would strike fear into a freshman, especially those without many friends.

Violetta Tyranny Marsden, aka Vi, is no different. She is a freshman in high school and was not very popular in middle school/junior high. Soon she realizes that she needs friends if she is going to survive, not only her freshman year but high school in general. Freshmen are easy targets for the upper classmen and Vi knows if she is caught alone without help, she could die. This may sound like an exaggeration, but the high school Vi is attending is not your typical high school. It is a school for students with super human abilities. and those students can increase their abilities by defeating the other students and absorbing the fallen student’s prestige. Doing this makes the victorious student stronger and more powerful each time they defeat another student. The defeated student basically vaporizes and no longer exists.

KILL THE FRESHMAN - ELECTION

KILL THE FRESHMAN – Elections Soon

KILL THE FRESHMAN, created and written by Alex Langley, is a great story of the struggles of being a student in high school with the added twist of potential death. There is a good mixture of comedy, action, and drama in KILL THE FRESHMAN. During this portion of Vi’s high school days she will struggle with making friends, trying to fit in, dealing with the pressures of running for Student Council, and don’t forget staying alive. The artwork by Marko Head and Greg Fischer is vibrant with backgrounds by Rian Sygh and layouts by Nick Langley. KILL THE FRESHMAN is a truly enjoyable and easy to follow story.

KILL THE FRESHMAN - SENIOR

KILL THE FRESHMAN – Seniors Rule

Although there is the potential for a student to die, it is not projected in a gruesome manner but more in a way that the defeated student simply vanishes. With that in mind, I feel this would be a great story for young teen readers and still enjoyable for older readers as well. Basically, this story still packs a lot of the attributes many people love in their favorite comics/graphic novels. There is still some physical fighting but without as much of the graphic nature that some parents may be uneasy about.
