Mike Allred is experiencing a bit of a renaissance recently with the launch of Image’s It Girl and The Atomics and his Marvel Now title “FF” with Matt Fraction. This new book, spinning out of the pages of Allred’s beloved “Madman Comics” has been shepherded by the team of Jamie S. Rich (Cut My Hair) and Mike Norton (Battlepug).

With regular artist Mike Norton given a break before the start of the second major story arc, fan favorite Chynna Clugston Flores (Blue Monday) is the pinch hitter collaborating with her former editor Jamie S. Rich for issue #6. Clugston Flores’ art is complimented quite nicely by the colors of Allen Passalaqua. This Mr. Gum solo space adventure gives a similar stylistic vibe to Brendan McCarthy and Al Ewing’s “Zaucer of Zilk” which saw a recent release in America. This issue works as a jumping on point for new readers curious to see what the Allreds and company get up to outside of The Big Two. Plus, for this reviewer, any time Chynna Clugston Flores graces a book with her storytelling is a welcome sight.
