Arrow and The Flash Renewed; Will Crossover Once a Year
The live action adaptations of the Flash and Green Arrow will continue at The CW.
During the network’s TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour via Comic Book Movie, a fourth season of Arrow was announced, along with a second season of the Flash. Other CW series like Supernatural and the Vampire Diaries were renewed as well. “Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience,” said CW President Mark Pedowitz. “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups.”
Arrow and The Flash have been hits for The CW, with the latter having the highest-rated series premier on the network. Both series will crossover with one another, but only once a year, according to Pedowitz. Believing the DC shows should stand on their own, Pedowitz compares limiting the crossover between Arrow and The Flash to the yearly Doctor Who Christmas specials. A crossover with the live action Supergirl series for CBS is also possible, as long as producer Greg Berlanti–involved with all three series–can “figure out a way to make it work.”
