IDW Publishing announced many big upcoming projects at San Diego Comic Con, and came home with three Eisner Awards for the big projects they followed through on this year.  Their new announcements include Transformers stories, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles big box board gameStreet Fighter X G.I. Joe, and more.

When I heard a Half-Price Books cashier talking with a customer about the upcoming Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover, I decided that was exhibit A for it being one of the biggest announcements of the convention, as it had already penetrated into the public consciousness.  No doubt many casual and devoted fans of both franchises are also enjoying their own water cooler conversations on the upcoming crossover.

What will please long-time comic collectors very much, though, is the teaser for the upcoming Micronauts and Rom the Spaceknight series.  The Marvel Comics adaptations of these vintage toys are possibly the best toy tie-in comic books of all time, with The Micronauts especially being a strong example of some of Bill Mantlo’s best work.  This isn’t the first time IDW has moved in the direction of a new Micronauts series, as the recent String Divers series is a Micronauts makeover, and fans will surely hope that IDW’s interest in the concept will result in a release not only of a new series but also the first twelve issues of Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden’s Micronauts as an Artist’s Edition.
