Oh Steve Niles, I’ve missed your darkness.

The modern master of horror comics is back, and he’s switched locales from Alaska to Florida in his new limited series Winnebago Graveyard from Image Comics. The book tells the story of Bobby, a 13-year-old more interested in his phone than being on vacation; Dan, his new stepfather who can’t seem to do anything write and Christie, Bobby’s mom and resident peacekeeper. Oh, there’s Satanists too.

The new family is on vacation in Florida when they pull off the main drag and make an ill-advised stop at a roadside carnival. Things don’t quite go according to Hoyle for the clan when fun times end, and they’re forced to venture into a town so creepy looking that Pennywise wouldn’t set foot inside the border. We as readers just know that misery is in the cards for our poor protagonists, and knowing Niles, the ride is going to be a blast.

Our story actually begins with the aforementioned Satanists and a multi-page ceremony that fully demonstrates the range of artist Alison Sampson’s skills. Her art is moody, dark and daring all at once, and is the perfect compliment to Niles’ script.

Due to the graphic nature of the title, it’s definitely not for everyone. However. for horror fans or fans of Niles himself, this is an absolute must-read. Winnebago Graveyard hits store shelves June 14.
