Now, I’m a fan of stories about dystopian futures because, let’s be honest, unless something changes, the real world is pretty much heading in that direction and these stories will eventually turn into survival guides. Plus, if done right, those stories are always entertaining. Blade RunnerThe Terminator, The Matrix, and Turbo Kid are some of my favorite dystopian stories. I think Empty Zone can now sit on that list.

EmptyZone_vol1-1

Empty Zone is the brainchild of Jason Shawn Alexander and is published by Image Comics. Empty Zone Volume One collects issues #1-5, which tells the story of Corinne, a former “Tracer” and current freelance “information courier”. I don’t want to get anymore into the story because it’s definitely one that should be experienced first-hand. The writing is great, the art is hauntingly beautiful, and the story is kind of messed up, in the good way that memorable dystopian stories should be. This title is rated for mature audiences, for some good reasons. I definitely recommend it and look forward to reading more.
