Announced by the Nerdist, Deadpool 250 (A.K.A #45) will see the chimichanga-eating mercenary meet his end. Below is the official solicit for the final issue.

FINAL ISSUE!
That’s right—if you add together all the Deadpool series (creatively) issue 45 is the big 250th issue of Deadpool! What better way to celebrate than to end the series? In our over-sized main story, ULTIMATUM comes at Deadpool for revenge, so he has no choice but to take them on—ALL OF THEM. Then, in an Infinity Gauntlet crossover, what would Deadpool do if he got the six gems from Thanos? Plus: a slew of stories showcasing Deadpool’s closest friends and allies by special guest writers! Also, SPOILER: Deadpool dies at the end of the issue.

As you can see by the solicit, the final issue of Deadpool features an all-star cast of writers and artists. However, writing credit for the final issue and the series in general goes to Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, as they’ve been building to this point since the Marvel NOW! relaunch in 2012. “In all honesty, the story that you’re going to get in Deadpool #250, is a story that we really have been building to since the first issue of Deadpool NOW,” Duggan told the Nerdist.  “And it will absolutely feel – it will feel, I hope, readers will think that this is an appropriate end for this Deadpool.” According to Duggan, Scott Aukerman of Comedy Bang Bang will make his Marvel writing debut in Deadpool 250 (A.K.A #45).

In September of last year, Marvel’s senior vice president of sales and marketing David Gabriel hinted Deadpool’s death in an interview with ComicBook.com. “Oh and speaking of death, we were just talking about the upcoming death of a character in March in issue #250 of a character with the word Dead in his name,” Gabriel said. “Go figure.”

The Death of Deadpool comes on the heels of the Death of Wolverine miniseries last year. Given the hostility between Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox over the movie rights of X-Men, one could see the deaths of these popular mutant characters as a result of Marvel downplaying the series significance in the Marvel Universe. Of course, comic book deaths are far from out of the ordinary, along with the inevitable revival and the relaunch series to accompany them. If the strong sales of Death of Wolverine and Amazing Spider-Man #1 featuring Peter Parker, is that audiences still eat up stories of their favorite characters dying/out-of-commission and later coming back to the job.

Deadpool 250 (A.K.A #45) goes on sale in April.
