Marvel released the second trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 today, which I won’t spoil for you, although there are some comments afterwards if you want to scroll down after viewing.
- “I wanna put some tape over the death button!” may be one of my favorite lines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- …though you can get a lot more traction out of “I am Groot,” which sounds better than ever in the voice of Baby Groot. Actually, if you wanted a short list of reasons for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s existence, Baby Groot is probably in the top three.
- The scene in which a science fiction empath becomes a co-op party game seems like a scene that was written for TNG’s Deanna Troi and scrapped.
- Sweet’s “Fox on the Run” (Desolation Boulevard, 1974) is an interesting song to provide commentary to this trailer, as what is “Fox on the Run” about except a sequel of sorts, and one with changed expectations as well? “I don’t want to know your name / ‘Cause you don’t look the same / The way you did before / you think you got a pretty face / But the rest of you is out of place / You looked all right before” The energetic seventies glam rock track provides additional contrast to the action and the humorous lines, and one hopes it’s on Star Lord’s Awesome Mix Vol. 2. For those of you also interested in how the second album may be shaping up, two tracks may have been performed for Hall H at SDCC this year: Jay and the Americans, “Come a Little Bit Closer”; and, Fleetwood Mac, “The Chain.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 arrives May 5th, 2017.
