With 362 backers and 23 days yet to go as of the time that I’m writing this, Fernando Ruiz and Dan Parent’s DIE KITTY DIE! was funded today on Kickstarter. Die Kitty Die! tells the story of Kitty Ravencraft, a magical young witch and the star of her own comic book. Everything’s hunky dory until Kitty realizes that her own publisher has it in for her:
When her greedy, publicity-starved publisher wants to increase interest in her comic book, he does what many comic book publishers do nowadays… he sets out to kill his main character, Kitty! Even worse, he decides to REALLY spike sales by killing the REAL Kitty in REAL life! The question is though… how do you kill a witch?
In an update written to backers after the project was funded, the creators say that “we will be adding stretch goals, add ons and other incentives to make this project even bigger and better!”
Described as the first joint effort under Ruiz and Parent’s new comic label, Astrocomix, DIE KITTY DIE! is slated to run from February to June, 2016 as a PDF incentive to Kickstarter backers, and the trade compilation will be published in July, 2016. There may be more to follow as well, with Ruiz and Parent hoping “this venture will prove popular enough that we can produce more books and possibly launch more projects!”
Sample cover art and interior pages can be found on the Kickstarter page.
