Brubaker and Epting’s Velvet gets deluxe treatment

The creative team behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier will release a deluxe hardcover edition of their spy thriller series later this month. Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting’s Velvet delivers a new take on the classic spy tale, and the first 15 issues of this breakthrough tale are collected in this deluxe volume.

What if the secretary to the man running the world’s most top secret spy agency was once their most dangerous weapon? That’s the question Brubaker and Epting answer in this incredible volume.

Ït’s amazing to see all our hard work on Velvet finally collected in one big volume,”Brubaker said. “This is some of the best work that Steve Epting and Elizabeth Breitweiser have ever done. It’s worth it for the art alone.

“This book is the culmination of an something Ed and I first discussed almost ten years ago, and it’s
extremely gratifying to see it finally realized in one collected edition,” said Epting. “I enjoyed working on VELVET more than any other project in my career for many reasons, not the least of which was collaborating with the best writer and the best colorist in comics.”

The series stars Farrah Durante, a middle-aged actress in search of her next gig in an industry where being young supersedes being experienced. Her emotions become a lure for something dark, something primed for revenge, something ready to strike back against the culture-obsessed culture Farrah is part of.

“Glitterbomb is a very special project for Djibril and I,” said Zub. “Delving into the dark heart of celebrity with wonderful collaborators like K. Michael Russell, Marshall Dillon, and Holly Raychelle Hughes has been a thrill. We’re excited for readers to read this opening salvo as we reload and take aim at new targets in the next story arc.”

The Old Guard set to debut

Eisner-winning writer Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez join forces for the all-new, action-packed, era-spanning series THE OLD GUARD, set to launch this month.

Trapped in an immortality without explanation, THE OLD GUARD follows Andromache of Scythia—“Andy”—and her comrades as they ply their trade for those who can find—and afford—their services. Set in the 21st century where immortality is a hard secret to keep, this action-packed new series explores what happens when you live just long enough to learn that there are many fates worse than death.

“I’ve loved working with Leo since our Queen & Country days, and being able to tell this story with him at Image is pretty much all the cake, and the icing, and the presents,” said Rucka. “Leo’s storytelling is perfect for this, a wonderful blend of realism that marries some terrific over-the-top action. We’re hoping people will have as much fun reading this as we’re having making it!”

Fernandez added: “A story from Greg? The chance to develop it with him from the scratch? Cool characters? Cool scenarios? Cool situations? Cool action? I get to draw different eras in history and have the freedom to produce some of my best work? …I’ve been waiting for this too long as to screw it up!”

The Old Guard #1 will be in stores February 22.
