One of the beauties of sequential art is that by juxtaposition of out of context images you can make it look like, for example, Donald Trump just got punched in the gut by Captain America.  But what is really happening in the above promotional image is that ToonSeum, Pittsburgh’s cartoon and comic art museum, is advertising the launch of two new exhibits:  Captain America: 75 Years of the Sentinel of Liberty, and This Campaign is Yuuuge!: Cartoonists Tackle the 2016 Presidential Race.

The Captain America exhibit features pages by Jack Kirby (!) and Joe Simon (!), and ” gives fans a a rare look at the comic book patriot from his early days punching Hitler up to his latest appearance on the big screen in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.”  The This Campaign… exhibit features irreverent looks at The Donald, Hillary, Bernie, and more, with “work by Pulitzer Prize winners Jack Ohman,  Signe Wilkinson, Joel Pett, Matt Wuerker, Ann Telnaes, Matt Davies, Steve Sack and many others.”

The opening party is on next Friday, May 27th, and tickets are $10.  While one ticket gets you into both shows, ToonSeum has made the interesting choice to track fan interest on two different pages, so you can support the Marvel Comics icon that punched Der Furher (we can imagine his fist connecting with The Donald) by clicking this link, and you can order through the This Campaign is Yuuuge! page by clicking this link.  Yes, by this Democratic process, you can vote against Donald Trump six months early!
