New Manga Title from Battle Royal Writer Koushun Takami

Koushun Takami continues the bloody tale of teens forced to kill each other continues in an all-new manga title from VIZ, Battle Royale: Angels’ Border.

BattleRoyale-AngelsBorder

From VIZ:

Author Koushun Takami’s notorious literary thriller, BATTLE ROYALE, possessed an irresistible premise: a class of junior high school students is taken to a deserted island where, as part of a ruthless authoritarian program, they are provided arms and forced to kill one another until only one survivor is left standing. Criticized as violent exploitation when first published in Japan – where it then proceeded to become a runaway best seller – Battle Royale has become a Lord of the Flies for the 21st century, a potent allegory of what it means to be young and (barely) alive in a dog-eat-dog world.

In BATTLE ROYALE: ANGELS’ BORDER, most of the students from Shiroiwa Junior High scatter as soon as they reach the remote island where they must participate in the latest round of the Program. But Yukie Utsumi and five of her friends lock themselves in the lighthouse, clinging to a desperate hope of survival. They all trust each other, but they also know that only one can survive the Battle Royale…

Battle Royale: Angels’ Border will be released in print ($12.99 U.S. / $14.99 CAN) and digital ($8.99 USD/CAN) on June 17th. This graphic novel marks the first time Koushun Takami has revisited the Battle Royale world since the debut of his novel over a decade ago.

All You Need is Kill Releases on Digital Platform in Both English and Japanese on June 19th

From VIZ:

Takeshi Obata’s ALL YOU NEED IS KILL ran in VIZ Media’s WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP digital manga magazine earlier this year and is the stunning manga realization of the popular Japanese sci-fi novel, written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. In the rousing action story, when the alien Mimics invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor called a Jacket and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to be reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On his fifth iteration, he gets a message from a mysterious ally – the female soldier known as the Full Metal Bitch. Is she the key to Keiji’s escape or his final death?

“Takeshi Obata interprets this critically acclaimed novel in a new way with his manga treatment of ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, and we can’t wait for fans to discover the exciting new digital release in June, debuting just after the highly anticipated premiere of the Edge of Tomorrow film,” says Andy Nakatani, Editor. “The riveting characters and climactic action tale are depicted with Obata’s signature flair. Don’t miss this special new release from one of the most renowned creators of the manga genre!”

Takeshi Obata is also known for his work on Hikaru No Go, and his interpretation of  the All You Need is Kill novel is both faithful to the source while simultaneously adding another layer to the story. The two volumes of the manga series will be available on the VIZ Manga App for $6.99 each. A deluxe omnibus of the series will be released on November 4th under the Shonen Jump Advanced imprint for U.S. $14.99 / CAN $16.99.
