The Archie Comics live action show Riverdale will feature as part of The CW’s 2016-2017 lineup. A positive public reaction to the news of a pilot episode has led to The CW picking up a full series. Riverdale will join a heavily comic influenced lineup for The CW that now includes former CBS show Supergirl.
Riverdale will be the fifth series produced for The CW by Greg Berlanti, also known for Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It will be the sixth comic show for the network with iZombie completing the list.
Archie Comics Publisher and CEO Jon Goldwater said “This is a historic moment for Archie Comics — and I couldn’t be more proud. It’s a culmination of my time here, and I’m eager to see Greg Berlanti, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, The CW, Warner Brothers Studios, and the cast bring Riverdale to viewers every week. My promise to fans? You ain’t seen nothing yet.”
The main cast now consists of KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge. Riverdale is set to feature a dark and subversive take on Archie.
