When a book can include names like Matt Kindt, Jeff Lemire, Dan Abnett, Damon Lindelof, and Gail Simone, and still have another dozen other talented creators, it’s safe to say that the book has a lot to live up to. Combine those talented creators with a time travel/scifi theme, and the result is Time Warp #1 from Vertigo.

With nine stories involving everything from dinosaurs to Hitler to deathless war, there is a wide range of story contained within the eighty pages. A full discussion of the plots would take up nearly the length of the anthology itself, but the high points included a new Rip Hunter story in Damon Lindelof and Jeff Lemire’s R.I.P. and Gail Simone and Gael Bertrand’s story involving candies that induce memory loops.

A theme that was present in more than one story was using time travel to kill Hitler, which is an obvious choice. Even so, both stories handled it in inventive ways. As anthologies go, this one was near perfect. Each and every story was well presented script-wise. The flow of stories never really left a dull moment or never felt too abrupt of a change.

The art was quite fitting for each story. While the art styles ranged greatly, it was never jarring as the stories ended and another began. The highlight of the anthology was arguably the combination of Gael Bertrand’s art and Jordie Bellaire’s colors on I Have What You Need. The cute, cartoonish art and vibrant colors were perfect for the story involving chronal candies.

This is how anthologies should be. Each and every story is deserving of praise, which makes the impact of the whole even better. Just keep them coming, Vertigo/DC.
