The most recent incarnation of Planet Comicon Kansas City was held May 20th-22nd at Bartle Hall in downtown Kansas City. While attendance figures for this year’s show are not available at press time, 2015’s event hosted more than 54,000 people.
A programming schedule was crammed full of panels, celebrity Q&A’s and performances in multiple rooms. The Great Hall hosted “An Evening With Kevin Smith” on Friday night while Stan Lee was a huge draw on Saturday’s slate of events.
A roster of nearly thirty celebrity guests were present to interact with fans while a massive Artists’ Alley featured top names in comics including Jason Aaron of “Southern Bastards” and Marvel’s mega selling “Star Wars” comic, “Harley Quinn” co-writers Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti plus industry legends Howard Chaykin and Bill Sienkiewicz.
Cosplay was on full display at Planet Comicon Kansas City with Carly Bossemeyer taking home Best In Show for her “Nettle The Moth” outfit. Rad Science’s John Anthony emceed the festivities, while being joined on stage by cosplay icons Abby DarkStar and Keith Zen Dragon.
This convention just seems to find new ways to grow and still retain a charm that may not be found at the mega-shows. Planet Comicon Kansas City 2017 is already seeming like a can’t miss event.
