Loot Crate promised not only Ant-Man and the Wasp, Adventure Time, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles goodies for the Team Up crate, but also, extending the theme to those opening the crate, revealed the July Loot Crate would include two tee shirts for team-ups in the real world.

While usually I rank my first and second favorite items, this month I had two first favorites, as I was happy with the Ant-Man and Wasp t-shirts, not only because of the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe release, but because it was really cool to get a possible “couples” item. Basic black was a good choice for couples’ shirts, so they could be matched with nearly any pants, shorts, skirt, or legwear. Also, rather than using energy-neutralizing complementary colors, the contrasting colors of the graphics create an effect that draws attention more to the combination of the two than to each individual shirt, so that they seem more complete as a pair.

While with two favorite items, the Adventure Time Finn and Jake “Tao” pin is technically my third favorite item this month, it is also my third favorite Loot Pin to date, after the d20 and Galaga pins. It’s a superb pin that succeeds in being more than decorative, and expresses not only the iconography of Adventure Time, but also its intrinsic indifference to reality. The whole show is summed up in a button, as it were.

Adventure Time was also represented in Team Up’s cratecraft, a Finn and Jake papercraft.

The Bill & Ted‘s Most Excellent Picture Frame holds a 3×5 photo, and mimics not only the movie poster art, but their time traveling Tardis phone booth. While he isn’t my favorite time traveling Rufus (BRING BACK TIMELESS), I would have preferred to see George Carlin in the frame.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magnet Set puts the heroes in a halfshell in poses from the 1980s cartoon series. It’s nice to get shaped magnets to liven up the monotony of all the rectangular fandom magnets on our refrigerator.

Overall, Team Up was a good crate, although my interest was definitely lopsided, with my excitement centering around the Ant-Man and the Wasp and Adventure Time items.

While Team Up is no longer available, until August 19th, you can order Mayhem, which includes goodies from Office Space, Rick and Morty, and DC Comics, including Harley Quinn.
