Hawkeye, Fatale, and Building Stories lead the list of 2013 Eisner Award nominated comics announced this week by Comic-Con International. The three books each garnered five nominations.

Chris Ware’s multi-format Building Stories (Pantheon) received nominations for Best Graphic Novel-New, Best Writer/artist, Best Coloring, Best Lettering, and Best Publication Design.

Marvel Comics’ Hawkeye, by Matt Fraction and David Aja, follows the trials of the arrow-slinging Avenger. Hawkeye is nominated for Best Continuing Series, Best New Series, Best Writer, Best Penciller/Inker, and Best Cover Artist.

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’s supernatural noir series Fatale (Image) is also nominated for Best Continuing Series, Best New Series, Best Writer, Best Penciller/Inker, and Best Cover Artist.

Other works that received multiple nominations include BOOM!/ kaboom’s Adventure Time (4),  Carol Tyler’s graphic memoir You’ll Never Know, Book 3: A Soldier’s Heart (4), and Bandette, a digital comic from Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover (4).

Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staple’s Saga and Charles Burns’s Hive received three nominations each.

The Eisner Awards, in their 25th year, honor Will Eisner, the legendary comic artist and writer who created The Spirit. Each year the awards celebrate the best in comic books, graphic novels, and digital works. The 2013 awards will be judged by Michael Cavna (reviewer, “Comic Riffs,” Washington Post), Charles Hatfield (academic and author, Cal State Northridge), Adam Healy (retailer, Cosmic Monkey, Portland, OR), Katie Monnin (Teaching Graphic Novels), Frank Santori (Storeyville), and John Smith (Comic-Con International registrar). Winners will be announced July 19 during a ceremony at San Diego Comic-Con International.
