Each week, First Glance Films’ Bill Ostroff explores the world of geeky crowdsource fundraisers to see which might grab NerdSpan readers. These articles are not endorsements but, rather, opportunities for you to discover these great creative efforts and decide for yourself which crowdfunders you deem worthy of support.

“We’re just a couple of girls in Spandex…”

Is that all they are? Kit Quinn and Tallest Silver make their own costumes and wear them at comic book conventions to show their love for their favorite characters. The fans love to see these characters come to life, but it’s also amazing to see little children look up at these two in costume, and they’ve got stars in their eyes. They might as well be superheroes.

And that reminds me: Don’t you remember when you were little and you put on that bed sheet cape? Wasn’t there a part of you that wished it could be real?

Wish granted.

Sweethearts of the Galaxy is a Web series about Katelyn, a woman who dresses up as galactic ranger Trinity Infinity.  At a comic book convention, she has a gnarly fall while faking a flying shot for a television news crew, and when she returns to consciousness … she believes she truly is Trinity Infinity.

The first series will comprise nine episodes of seven to ten minutes each, telling a complete story from beginning to end, as Katelyn’s best friend Silvia, who dresses up as the lovable rogue Element 47, recreates comic book scenarios to get Katelyn through her daily life: going to the ATM is hacking a weapons console, driving a friend to a job interview is capturing a supervillain, and going to work is going undercover.
