DVD Review: Berserk – The Golden Age Arc III: The Advent
This is a review for the DVD version of Berserk – The Golden Age Arc III: The Advent.
If you’re familiar with the manga and the anime versions of Berserk, then you know that this film is DEFINITELY NOT FOR CHILDREN.
With that being said, this is an enjoyable film. Not gonna lie. I know of and had heard many things about Berserk, but I had yet to see anything until I did this review. This film makes me want to catch up on everything that has been released. By its title, this film is the third title in The Golden Age film trilogy. The first title was Berserk – The Golden Age Arc I: The Egg Of The King and the second title was Berserk – The Golden Age Arc II: The Battle For Doldrey. Berserk – The Golden Age Arc III: The Advent lives up to everything I had heard about Berserk. I can’t say where it stands with fans of the series, but as a fan of violence (don’t judge me), I enjoyed it. Ultra-violence that will either be appreciated or detested depending on the viewer’s capacity for graphic violence.
Trigger Warning: There are graphic scenes of a sexual nature, including a rape scene.
I will not give away anything about the story. Instead, here is the synopsis from the back of the DVD package: “The horrifying conclusion to The Golden Age unfolds in a magnificently violent nightmare, signifying the birth of a new era. It’s been a year since Griffith’s imprisonment by the Kingdom Of Midland. Once praised as the saviors of Midland, the Band Of The Hawk has been on the run and is on the brink of breaking apart. Much to everyone’s surprise, Guts returns to the Hawks, and the search for Griffith begins!” Just remember to watch all the way through until the end of the End Credits. In what seems to be the norm nowadays, there is an After End Credits scene.
VIZ Media has released another fine product. The Audio was clean, clear, and available in both English and Japanese. Subtitles are available in English. The Video was 16×9 Widescreen and very clean. The Special Features included on the DVD are as follows: Production Art Gallery, Japanese Teaser, Japanese Trailer, Japanese TV Spots, and the Ending Theme “Breakthrough”. After watching this film, I plan on picking up the rest of the trilogy released by VIZ Media.
