LootCrate’s epic December 2015 Galaxy box has arrived, packed with excellent contents to satisfy its subscribers. Aside from the button of the month, displayed above, there are only five physical items in this month’s LootCrate, and one digital, but they are all of excellent quality, and worth substantially more than the twenty dollars or less you spent on this month’s crate.
The first item out of the box is this excellent LootCrate exclusive t-shirt from LootCrate Labs:
While on the face of it, this is a mash-up of 8 bit science fiction gaming and “ugly sweater” styles, what it will really mix in those who see it is a combination of “I want” and “I like.” Wearers of this unique design should find the covetous admiration it inspires very satisfying.
That’s not all the wearable items in this box, either, but first you have to snap open a life-sized replica tin of a Halo 5 ammo pack to find the rest of your goodies:
Big enough to hold a MRE, some granola bars, or some other small lunch, this great-looking tin, despite its innate utility, will probably end up displayed by fans on a shelf or in a case. Because it simply looks marvelous, and it’s rare to have a piece of a video game manifest in the real world. (Designed by A Crowded Coop).
Inside the Halo tin, you’ll find the second wearable item packed in this tin: LootCrate exclusive BB-8 socks from Hyp Hosiery.
The socks are unisex, so you could theoretically gift these to your significant other, if you had the Lawful Good heart of a Star Wars droid. But my advice is to keep them, because they are soft and comfortable and when your shoes are off and your feet are kicked off, these orange socks, emblazoned with the cutest new character in The Force Awakens, will attract all the attention in the room. There will no doubt be a little bit of begging for you to turn a deaf ear to, but turn to the Dark Side and you’ll have a lovely pair of socks for your drawer.
Han Solo may be the unluckiest character in the Star Wars universe. He keeps finding himself trapped in slabs. First carbonite, and now he’s boxed in this LootCrate exclusive Funko POP! figure:
Han Solo in snow gear is definitely a tie-in to The Force Awakens, as you can see his graying hair, frosty and distinguished around the temples. Want to frustrate a toy collector? Lord this Pop Funko Han Solo over them, and laugh loud and long like Jabba the Hut. Quote Star Wars at them: Manga wanjee kohkpah. Peecha wahnjee kohkpa tahng nahngee toochantkee troi. Fohtooh ma Solo kaychahlah. (“There will be no bargain. I will not give up my favorite decoration. I like Captain Solo where he is.” Cited from oocites.org)
What would a Galaxy themed LootCrate be without an exclusive piece of Galaxy Quest memorabilia? It just wouldn’t feel right. LootCrate thought likewise, and so LootCrate subscribers received an exclusive Galaxy Quest uniform patch.
In addition to the previous physical products, there is one digital product in the Galaxy crate: a Halo 5 Guardians Req Pack that contains exclusive virtual trading cards for the video game. There’s also the December 2015 issue of LC magazine, which includes a chat with Halo 5 executive producer Chris Lee, an interview with Drew Wise, the designer of this month’s t-shirt, and LootCrate’s 2015 year end review.
This month’s crate is an excellent example of why LootCrate remains not only the most exciting subscription service, but also one of the best values in that field. LootCrate packs in not only product at a great price, but a mini comic-con experience, with thematically curated, and often exclusive, merchandise.
