ABC have cancelled Agent Carter and Castle. In what is a big day for cancellations, ABC have also decided they won’t go ahead with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted. This leaves ABC with only one Marvel show for their 2016-2017 season, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Season 2 of Agent Carter finished on a cliffhanger, and despite a #RenewAgentCarter campaign on Twitter from fans they will never find out who the mysterious person was. Agent Carter also ended with season low ratings, and with star of the show Hayley Atwell joining the new ABC procedural Conviction, the cancellation might not come as too much of a surprise.

Castle was more successful and managed 8 seasons. In recent news that left Castle’s creator Andrew Marlowe “heartbroken”, it was revealed that Stana Katic (Detective Kate Beckett) and Tamala Jones (medical examiner Lanie Parish) would not be appearing in season 9. At the time the futures of Jon Huertas (Sergeant Antonio ‘Poke’ Espera) and Seamus Dever (Detective Kevin Ryan) were in doubt as they had not been asked back and believed their services were no longer required, although recent reports suggested they’d been signed for season 9.
