WizKids, perhaps best known as the publishers of HeroClix, Dice Masters, and Attack Wing, has also, as of last year, become the publishing house for the Dungeons & Dragons big box board games. Temple of Elemental Evil (2015) was WizKids’ first release in that series, and the fourth in the series overall, following Wizards of the Coast’s releases of Castle Ravenloft (2010), Wrath of Ashardalon (2011), and The Legend of Drizzt (2011). This week, WizKids announced the next installment in the series, Assault of the Giants, which will arrive in Spring of 2017.
Designed for 2-6 players, Assault of the Giants challenges players to command one of the six types of giants and claim the right to rule over all giantkind. Command giants and assault settlements to score points and secure important resources, including food, treasure, ore, and runes. Contents include 14 Giants miniatures, measuring from approximately 4” to over 5 ½” in height. Assault of the Giants is scheduled to release in Spring 2017, with an MSRP of $99.99 USD.
That’s a big price tag, but note that in addition to having a great new board game for your shelf, you’ll also be fourteen giants richer for your favorite fantasy tabletop milieu. All of these games are great sources not only for Dungeonmaster-less tabletop gaming, but as sources for Dungeons & Dragons miniatures for regular RPG play, as each comes with miniatures at the 30mm scale—just a little larger than life compared to the 25-28mm lead figurines that were used in my day.
WizKids has only released a promo image for what might be the box art, but to get an idea of what you can expect when you open Assault of the Giants, here is what you get in Temple of Elemental Evil:
